DIXON – The Phidian Art Club of Dixon is presenting the 73rd Phidian Art Show on April 1 at The Next Picture Show community fine arts center, 113 W. First St.
This will mark the return of the art show after it was canceled the previous two years because of COVID-19.
Citing concern about COVID-19 transmission, the Phidian Art Club will forego in-person award presentations this year and will announce the winner that day. The show will be open to the public during regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm
Awards will be given in a variety of categories including nature, creative, best landscape, multicultural, best floral, American and regional scenes, and “Reflections of the Past” awards. More than $3,500 in prize money donated to local businesses and individuals will be awarded.
The public will have the opportunity to choose a “People’s Choice Award” by voting for their favorite entry from April 1 to Thursday, April 14. The winner of the “People’s Choice Award” will be announced after the final voting date.
Artists contributions will be received at The Next Picture Show from 2 to 6 pm from Saturday, March 26 to Monday, March 28. The entry fee will be $15 for one piece of artwork and $25 for two pieces of artwork with a two piece artwork limit for participating artists. Artists must live within 35 miles of Dixon and be 17 years old or older. Only two dimensional drawing or paintings will be allowed into the show. Crafts, sculptures, photography, three-dimensional art, or digital art will not be accepted. All artwork must be ready to hang by wire, no larger than 48 inches in width or exceeding 25 pounds in weight.
The Phidian Art Club started the art show in 1947 to promote art, literature, music and promote local artists. Entry forms are available in-person at The Next Picture Show or by downloading the form off of the art gallery’s website.
