CHARLEVOIX — The Charlevoix Circle of Arts recently hosted an opening reception for its annual student show that features artistic work from area students.
The exhibit — “Spotlight on Innovation” — is an annual tradition at the Charlevoix Circle of Arts and is one that fills its gallery with artwork from high school juniors and seniors who are looking at a future in the arts.
“Our walls are filled with the art of these students through Charlevoix and parts of Antrim County and the works we’ve had come in this year are great,” said executive director Sarah Matye.
The exhibit opened on Friday, March 11 and will remain up through Saturday, April 9 showcasing student works in all mediums including canvas work, painting, mixed media, digital art, sculptures and more.
Exhibiting artists also had the opportunity to have their work juried by a representative of Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University as well as receive a portfolio review.
Awards were given out during the reception with placing artists receiving recognition and possible scholarships to Kendall College of Art and Design.
The Circle of Arts, in conjunction with the exhibit, has also been offering several free classes through its Youth Art Lab as well as take and make art kits for kids while supplies last.
Classes offered include the upcoming watercolor painting classes on March 19, an air dry clay class on March 25 and an introduction to sewing class on April 9.
Spaces in the classes are limited and registration is requested, which can be done online at www.charlevoixcircle.org.
“It’s a really nice opportunity to get kids here to see the exhibit but to also learn some art mediums as well,” said Matye. “We certainly hope that the public also attends and visits the exhibit to see the talent we have here in Northern Michigan.”
The exhibit was made possible through the sponsorship of Blick Art Materials and Petoskey Plastics and is open during Circle of Arts hours from 11 am-4 pm Monday through Friday and 11 am-3 pm on Saturday.
The Charlevoix Circle of Arts is located at 109 Clinton St. in downtown Charlevoix. More information about the organization or its Spotlight on Innovation exhibit can be found online at www.charlevoixcircle.org. or by calling (231) 547-3554.
