“We can revolutionize everything, but only if we mean it, and if we come together. Just like an army.”
SaveArtSpace and Pussy Riot have announced their upcoming exhibition #PUSSYVERSE, a public art exhibition of 10 artworks by female and LGBTQ+ artists to be presented on billboard ad spaces across 9 US states. The exhibition is curated by Pussy Riot activist Nadya Tolokonnikova to protest the gender pay gap in the art world.
SaveArtSpace put out an open call for female and LGBTQ+ artists, to submit visual artwork on topics of female and LGBTQ+ empowerment, smashing the patriarchy, and eliminating gender inequality in the distribution of capital. Art by women sells for 50% less than artists, and female artists accounted for just 5% of all NFT art sales. In the traditional art world, female artists represent just 2% of the market. The market for work by women is still less than the total sales for Picasso alone.
Nadya Tolokonnikova selected 10 artworks to be exhibited on billboard ad spaces in New York, California, Tennessee, Navada, Missouri, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana and Alabama. The chosen artists include Michele Pred, Autumn Breon and Michele Pred, REKA NYARI, Fatimazohra Serri, Van Velden Studio, Aminta Paiz, EllaSuper, Niohuru X, Jess Whittam, and Holly Silius. The artworks will be presented alongside 11 artworks by Nadya Tolokonnikova. Tolokonnikova’s NFT artwork PATRIARCHY
RIP, inspired by the alternate reality of the metaverse where patriarchy is dead, was commissioned by Wave’s Non Fungible Fund, and will be featured in Venice CA.
During the week of March 7th, SaveArtSpace will launch public art installations for each selected work on billboard ad spaces in 9 US states.
Travis Rix and Justin Aversano, co-founders of the non-profit organization SaveArtSpace said:
